Crazy True Stories

At twenty-six, Tarek had finished school and military service, but still worked beside his father on the family’s small farm. He wanted to marry and felt he had no way to afford a home of his own.

A friend suggested contacting Rouh, his mother’s sister. Rouh, forty-four, had married a wealthy businessman and lived in Paris. Tarek’s mother asked whether she could arrange work for him. Rouh agreed, helped with the travel arrangements, and welcomed him at the airport.

Mona narrates the story from Tarek’s perspective, following the opportunity that took him away from the family farm.

A different life in Paris

Rouh took Tarek to a large villa. Her husband was away in the United States when he arrived. She bought him clothes, helped him adjust to the workplace, and placed him in a part of the business where he could deal with Arabic-speaking clients.

The opportunity initially seemed to answer everything he had wanted. He had a job, comfortable housing, and the support of a relative who knew how to navigate his unfamiliar surroundings.

Then he saw another man leaving Rouh’s room. By this point, he had met her husband and knew the visitor was someone else. Rouh told him to keep what he had seen private.

When he challenged her, she said her marriage lacked intimacy but that she did not want to leave the wealth and security it provided. She described paying the other man and insisted that Tarek should not speak about it.

The offer attached to her help

Rouh later said she would introduce Tarek to a bride. When he followed her instructions, he discovered that she meant herself. She proposed a sexual relationship with her adult nephew and offered substantial payments, while suggesting that refusal could send him back to his old life.

Tarek initially objected that she was his mother’s sister. He then accepted the arrangement, describing money and the fear of returning to poverty as part of his reasoning. Both people are adults during this part of the account; the family boundary and financial leverage remain central to it.

The relationship continued. Tarek accumulated money, bought property and cars, and gave his mother the impression that his success came entirely from ordinary employment. Rouh reinforced that impression by praising his work.

A claim he had not expected

Eventually, Rouh told Tarek that her husband knew about the relationship and payments. She also claimed that the couple intended to treat him as their heir. These statements come through her conversation with Tarek; the story does not provide independent confirmation from the husband or a legal document.

Tarek says that he remained in France and later owned businesses. He promises another part of the story involving Rouh and her husband, leaving the next chapter untold here.

The first part ends with his material ambitions fulfilled and the family secret still shaping the life that made them possible.
