True Stories From Real Life

Engy was twenty-eight, from a conservative farming family, and married to Ahmed, thirty-one. He had admired her before proposing, and her father asked for her agreement rather than deciding alone.

Their early marriage was affectionate. Then Ahmed returned to farm work, and Engy found herself under his mother’s demanding supervision. When she complained about harsh treatment, he defended his mother rather than listening to her.

After about a year, Ahmed accepted work in Saudi Arabia to earn money for more land. Engy asked him to delay the trip, but he left.

Working the land during his absence

Conflicts with her mother-in-law continued. Engy returned to her father’s home until Ahmed came back for a visit. Her father helped negotiate a new arrangement: she would manage Ahmed’s land instead of serving his mother.

Ahmed traveled again and remained away for years. Engy continued working, but felt increasingly alone. Calls about their relationship often ended with Ahmed asking about the fields instead.

One day, she needed a bathroom while working far from the village. Mansour, a twenty-five-year-old neighbor, offered the facilities in his field shelter. The encounter made her more conscious of his attention, and she tried asking Ahmed once again to return.

He continued focusing on the land and his earnings.

A boundary crossed, then used against her

The next day, Mansour helped with unfinished work. He said he had overheard her phone conversations because their homes were close together. His knowledge of her loneliness allowed him to make his attention feel unusually personal.

When she used his bathroom again, he entered despite her objections. The account describes resistance, physical pressure, and a sexual encounter, followed by his promise that no one would know. Her earlier conversations and need to use the bathroom did not authorize him to ignore her refusal.

Engy returned home and asked Ahmed whether he would come back. When he refused, she left for her father’s house and requested a divorce. Her father supported her, and Ahmed eventually agreed.

Leaving the situation

Mansour then began threatening Engy through WhatsApp and demanding further visits. She says she started planning a way to escape his pressure.

She later married a cousin who lived in the United Arab Emirates and moved there. The account ends with her narrating from the UAE, away from the farm and the people connected to the threats.

It does not describe a formal resolution of the blackmail, but it does give a change in her circumstances: the first marriage ended, and she began living elsewhere.
