A new beginning that became a struggle
Her family had rejected Amin’s proposal harshly. Shaimaa chose him anyway. As the disagreements escalated, the couple married and moved away.
In Turkey, Shaimaa found work as an interpreter for a tourism company and was able to organize her situation. Amin’s circumstances were more complicated. Rising living costs and uncertainty about his residency made a move to Germany seem increasingly attractive.
They wanted a more stable future but could not see an easy route to it.
A client with money and influence
Shaimaa’s manager assigned her to accompany Nasser, a wealthy Kuwaiti tourist and important client of the company.
She interpreted for him during a program that included Istanbul, Trabzon, Antalya, and other destinations. The assignment initially felt like ordinary work.
Over time, Nasser asked more personal questions. He learned that she was married, that her life with Amin was difficult, and that they hoped to reach Germany.
He said he could make that move easier for both of them and help financially while they established themselves.
The condition attached to help
At first, Shaimaa saw the offer as a way out of their problems. Then Nasser attached a personal demand that she rejected because it crossed the boundaries of her marriage.
He told her to explain the entire offer to her husband and let the two of them decide.
She returned home expecting Amin to be angry. After everything she had given up for him, she believed he would reject the condition immediately.
Instead, he discussed their expenses, his difficult situation in Turkey, and the money they would need to move. He treated Nasser’s proposal as an opportunity they might not get again.
What his answer changed
Shaimaa’s shock came as much from Amin’s response as from Nasser’s demand. The husband she had chosen over her family was now encouraging her to accept a condition she had expected him to oppose.
Their shared dream of Germany suddenly raised a different question: what was each of them willing to give up to reach it?
